In 1997, Upper Valley Utilities, an underground pipeline construction company, was requested to provide utility locating services to its fiber optic customers in Salt Lake City. Due to an increased demand for service Stake Center was formed by the owners of Upper Valley and became a separate entity in 1998. Now Stake Center provides services for the major phone, cable and power companies in Utah, as well as locating services for various utility companies nationwide.
